What each program keeps.

Everything on this page is in the programs today; nothing here is a roadmap. Each program is free on your device with no animal or plant limit, works offline, and needs no account. Keep It Safe adds syncing across your devices, and one subscription covers every program. The guides walk each one screen by screen.

Shared by every program

One record model underneath. What is true in one Murphy program is true in all of them.

Where the records live

  • Offline-first. Records are written to your device and stay readable with no connection, account or subscription.
  • Installs to the Home Screen on iPhone, iPad, Android and desktop as an app. Nothing from an app store.
  • Full backup file at any time; restore onto any device, with a safety copy taken first.
  • Optional Keep It Safe sync across your devices, additive, never a precondition for reading your own records. The screen says plainly whether it is caught up or saving locally.
  • No model in the product and no inference at runtime. Every number is arithmetic over records you entered.

How the records are kept honest

  • Count certainty on every group: counted, estimated, or not yet said, carried into every total and report.
  • Evidence tiers on lineage: recorded, asserted, or unknown, stated on every pedigree entry.
  • Derived, never stored: counts, due dates and welfare bands are computed from the records when read.
  • Provenance may be unknown. Unknown is a valid, recorded state.
  • A deliberate correction (a voided harvest, a reversed transfer) stays visible, struck through, never silently gone.

Working the day

  • Today lists what is due, worked out from the cadences you set and the records you wrote.
  • Overdue is never capped or hidden; the same act repeated across units can be checked off together, with undo.
  • Field notes, typed or by voice. How-tos for the way you do things. The 5·2·1·20 time-management rhythm and a facility calendar exported to Apple, Google or Outlook.
  • QR tags for records, printed in your choice of size; any phone camera opens the code and lands on the record.

Getting records in and out

  • Spreadsheet import (CSV, Excel, JSON) with a preview before anything is written, and a blank template with the exact columns.
  • CSV exports of every record type, plus an analysis-ready variant for research.
  • Text reports you can copy or download. Every export carries a header naming the facility, the platform and the export date.
  • Welfare scoring on a 50/30/20 rubric: body condition 50% as the floor, distinctive traits 30%, quality and finish 20%. Nothing is scored until a keeper scores it.

Murphy Core

Reptiles, amphibians and mixed collections. Read the guide.

Animals

  • Individual records: common and scientific name with taxonomy suggestions, nickname, sex, life stage, provenance, photos.
  • Groups and schools as one record with a count and its certainty; adjust the count from the card, graduate an individual out, grade a school by size, merge groups back.
  • Development stage on a school (fish and amphibian stages) and whether it is still dependent on a parent.
  • Batch add, spreadsheet import, ZIMS specimen-report import.
  • Rosters: named lists of animals for feed groups and other working sets.
  • Placements: sale, adoption, foster, lease, co-ownership, breeding rights and loans, with fees, deposits and contract terms. The other party stays private.

Husbandry

  • Feeding with mixed items and percentages taken, refusals, cadence per animal.
  • Hydration on its own cadence: soaks, misting, water.
  • Health: weights, medication courses, wounds on a body map, sheds, notes.
  • Training: each animal's repertoire by discipline, with stages you set (shaping, learned, shared, maintained, lapsed), sessions covering several behaviors, and behavior lists you can reuse. Positive reinforcement only.
  • Enrichment; ambassador roster with session tracking; stereotypy observation; welfare assessment; specimen score.
  • Care services: grooming, farrier, therapies (laser, physical therapy, hydrotherapy and more) and trims, with therapy plans, schedules you set, and providers kept private.
  • Recipes and prep: diets, cleaning solutions and substrate mixes with make-by times, thaw pulls, batch logs and ingredient stock.
  • Courses: recurring work across many animals, run as one action; Murphy also notices a rhythm you already keep and proposes it as a course.

Breeding and lineage

  • Pairings as events; clutches, litters and spawns followed to outcomes, with taxon-appropriate words (hatched, emerged, released, never developed, lost to infection, died).
  • Brooding parents, including mouthbrooders and males carrying young, recorded as brooding with the day count.
  • Offspring registered as individuals or as a school; F-generation math and inheritance run for you.
  • Parentage confidence: candidate dams and sires with how sure you are.
  • Multi-generation lineage with evidence tiers; printable pedigree certificate.

Enclosures, window, reports

  • Enclosures with dimensions, temperature and humidity targets, occupants, equipment with service dates, readings and a humidity graph; sensor log import.
  • Furnishings: perches, branches, hides, cuttlebone and baths, each tagged with every purpose it serves, with optional replace schedules.
  • Cleanup crew and seeding for tanks and bioactive enclosures: counts that say how sure they are, additions and losses, on a timeline beside water readings.
  • Collection Window: Today's attention list, Collection, Query builder, Timeline, Reports.
  • Daily Rounds, Welfare Report, Transport Document, animal cards for print, compare two animals.
  • Calendar: export what's due to Apple, Google or Outlook with reminders preset for each kind, import a calendar file and tick what to add, and get an 'Add to calendar?' offer whenever you save something with dates.
  • ZIMS-compatible export; where ZIMS holds fewer states than Murphy, the export collapses at the boundary and your record keeps the full truth.

Murphy Feeder

Feeder insects and live-food cultures. Read the guide.

Colonies and cultures

  • Colonies with a count and how it was counted; full-screen tally with total, live and dead modes and laps.
  • Cultures kept by volume in millilitres with density readings; split by volume into a new culture that knows its source.
  • Life stages as their own units with one-record transfers between them.
  • Grade by length, weight or your own rule into labelled bands; merge keeps bands side by side; the remainder is derived, never typed.
  • Measurements with a feed-out size and a ready mark; weighed samples for biomass; length-to-weight formulas you enter.

Harvest, cost, hatchery

  • Harvests with destination, optional weight, and voiding that keeps the record visible.
  • Inputs and cost by category; cost per 100 fed out; implied cost per destination; shared costs stay shared.
  • Brine shrimp hatchery: batches from set to ready to late, harvest in millilitres with quality judged, millilitres per gram from measured harvests only.
  • Breeding events, lifecycle entries, a searchable mortality surface.

Bins and environment

  • Bins, racks, drawers and tanks with type, volume and substrate mix.
  • Temperature, humidity, pH, dissolved oxygen and nitrite readings flagged against ranges.
  • Two-phase water change timer with per-bin averages; hands-free start and finish by voice.
  • Feed and water logged per bin, or checked off together from Today.

Analytics and reports

  • Survival by colony, fed out against a weekly target, cost last 30 days, growth over time, recent environment, mortality.
  • Query builder and collection timeline.
  • Daily, Production (with a ledger check that names any drift), Cost and Colony Summary reports.
  • Numbered QR tags per colony; bin tags.

Murphy Aquarium

Fish rooms and reefs, tank first. Shares Core's record model with aquatic words. Read the guide.

Tanks

  • Tanks with dimensions, volume and per-tank water targets; readings flagged only against your own targets.
  • Waste parameters carry a goal of zero, not a band.
  • Editable equipment list with service dates; livestock and equipment on one card.
  • Tank Report; sensor log import; humidity and readings graphs.

Livestock

  • Every Core animal feature for fish, inverts and corals, without the reptile-only asks (no shed logging).
  • Schools with counts and certainty, adjustable from the card; grading and merging; development stages larva to adult.
  • Spawns followed to outcomes; brooding parents recorded as brooding; offspring registered as a school.
  • Frags as propagations from a mother colony; sexual reproduction builds the same pedigree as any animal.

Murphy Plant

Growers and collectors. Read the guide.

Plants and care

  • Plants with medium (bark, sphagnum, soil, cactus mix, LECA, perlite, pumice, coir, charcoal, mixes, mounted), zone and provenance.
  • Care acts follow the medium: watered, reservoir refilled, flushed, soaked; fertilize, repot, replace medium.
  • A check that did not end in watering is a record: still damp, level fine, not needed.
  • Health: disease and pests with treatment. Specimen score. Photos.

Zones, calendar, lineage

  • Zones as places, with their plants; plant labels and zone tags as QR.
  • Calendar of everything due, from your cadences and records.
  • Propagation: cuttings, divisions and offsets that know their mother; establish or mark failed.
  • Crosses with seed and pollen parents; seedlings established with both parents; pedigree certificate for sexual lineage.
  • Cultivar registration prep: name check, origin and description, parentage, photographs, printed dossier.
  • Excel export of the whole collection; Plants-only Keep It Safe.

Murphy Aquaculture

Freshwater mussel and fish propagation. Read the guide.

Cohorts and pipeline

  • Cohorts with count certainty, survival bars, HUC12 watershed of origin, tally, measurements (bench or camera), grade, merge, move.
  • Broodstock; spawn events with gravid count and host fish.
  • Glochidia pipeline: infestation with the host fish lot used, excystment, juveniles, each a dated record.
  • Fish cohorts by stage (larva, fry, fingerling, juvenile, adult); biomass from weighings; feed per net gain; harvest by weight; host fish as a lot or a tagged individual.
  • Mortality as its own searchable surface; survival counts deaths, not departures.

Systems and reports

  • Tanks and raceways with their own water targets; pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature, flow and nitrite flagged against them.
  • Water change timer with per-tank averages and voice commands; algae and feed dosing per tank.
  • Data Matrix shell tags in three sizes and three code styles, printed offline, each a link to the cohort.
  • Daily, production (with transformation target and host fish utilization) and cohort summary reports; a continuous Excel copy of the records.

Murphy Aviary

Birds, flocks and aviaries. Shares Core's record model with bird words. Read the guide.

Birds

  • Band number, color and leg; microchip; DNA sexing with lab and date.
  • Flocks with a count, and pulling one bird out.
  • Move one bird or a whole group between aviaries in a tap; every move records when, why and who logged it.
  • Pairings, clutches and pedigrees.
  • Placements: sale, adoption, foster, lease, co-ownership, breeding rights and loans, with fees, deposits and contract terms. The other party stays private.

Daily care

  • Clean-water changes, substrate changes, and cleaning and sterilizing by aviary, each on your own schedule.
  • Several feedings a day without false warnings.
  • Furnishings: perches, branches, hides, cuttlebone and baths, each tagged with every purpose it serves, with optional replace schedules. Perches keep their own history by aviary.
  • Care services: baths, nail grinds, nail, beak and wing trims, and therapies (laser, physical therapy, acupuncture), with therapy plans, schedules you set, and providers kept private.

Body and feathers

  • Wing trims tracked through the molt; molt by feather area.
  • Foot scores; feather condition and plucking over time.
  • Nail and beak trims.
  • Training: each bird's repertoire by discipline, with stages you set (shaping, learned, shared, maintained, lapsed), sessions covering several behaviors, and behavior lists you can reuse. Positive reinforcement only.

Food, prep and the day

  • Recipes and prep: diets, cleaning solutions and substrate mixes with make-by times, thaw pulls, batch logs and ingredient stock; a feeding can name its batch.
  • Bathing and misting logged as enrichment.
  • Courses and Rosters, Murphy Cards.
  • Calendar: export what's due to Apple, Google or Outlook with reminders preset for each kind, import a calendar file and tick what to add, and get an 'Add to calendar?' offer whenever you save something with dates.
What Murphy does not do

It does not identify species, diagnose illness, verify genetics, certify that an animal or plant is what a label says, or replace a veterinarian. Regulatory exports and transport documents are preparation aids for your own filing, never a filing. Where a value would have to be guessed, Murphy abstains and says so.
